About Our Agency:
Big Brothers Bigs Sisters of Rhode Island is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to making a difference in the lives of young people by providing children in our communities with professionally trained and supported adult mentors.
With the help of our volunteer mentors, BBBSRI helps children understand and realize their full potential as they grow to be all they can be. With the help and support of their "Bigs", children ("Littles") are encouraged to overcome adversity, proudly recognize their strengths, and work to become better individuals every day of their lives.
BBBSRI considers those who stand up for mentoring and make investments in our state’s future to be “Defenders of Potential”. You can, proudly wear that title among the thousands of Rhode Islanders who make financial contributions, donate gently used clothing and small house hold items, and volunteer their time. We serve children, ages 7 – 18, throughout Rhode Island by pairing them with caring adult mentors in structured mentoring relationships.
Established in 1966—originally as the Big Sisters of Rhode Island, to assist at-risk girls in Rhode Island. The Board of Directors and staff oversee two 501(c)3 organizations with a shared mission to 'Create and support one-on-one mentoring relationship's that ignite the power and promise of youth.':
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island (BBBSRI) –the youth mentoring organization.
- BBBSRI Donation Center - a social enterprise that collects donations of used clothing and household goods for resale as a means of generating funds to support the mentoring program expenses.
