Join a Committee
It takes the hearts and hands of many caring individuals to make a real difference in the lives of Rhode Island children who are facing adversity. Joining a committee is a wonderful way to get involved. It is also a great way for a potential board member to get a feel for the agency’s work and needs. Committees typically meet monthly, depending upon board or agency initiatives, activities or events. Consider joining one of the following committees:

The Big Night Out Event Committee
A subsidiary of the Development Committee, this group takes the lead in planning our signature fundraising event. Our “black-tie optional” Big Night Out is a fabulous formal affair that takes place each year in the spring. This event raises funds that help us to continue to provide high-quality mentoring services for hundreds of children each year. The committee meets from January through May; a full schedule will be provided to all new members. This is the ideal volunteer opportunity for someone who enjoys planning events and/or securing sponsorships for a great cause. To join, call Shannon Gamache Scurry at 401-921-2434 x104 or email email@example.com.
Bowl for Kids’ Sake Committee
Bowl for Kids’ Sake Committee: Bowl for Kids’ Sake (BFKS) is a national Big Brothers Big Sisters bowling fundraiser (a bowl-a-thon) that Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS) hosts to raise money for our mentoring programs. The BFKS Planning Committee takes lead in recruiting teams to bowl, identifying and soliciting sponsorships, promoting the event in the community, planning the décor at the event and the event theme, soliciting items for any auction or raffle we might have and volunteering on the day of the event – or bowling at the event! In order to join, each committee member also agrees to become a team captain.
Being part of the BFKS committee is a great way to give back, connect with new friends, build your resume and just plain old feel good making a difference locally. To join, contact Shannon Gamache Scurry at 401-921-2434 x104 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
